Touch

An experimental film project; created without a camera using analogue and ‘hands on’ film making techniques.

Created in response to the disconnected period of lockdown during COVID. Using 2 metres (equivalent to a ‘social distance’ as advised by the UK Government) piece of film strip, which runs for 10 seconds at full speed and is both coincidentally and deliberately the same height as the artist.

Taking reference from Stan Brakhage the American film maker who explored a variety of formats, approaches and techniques that included handheld camerawork, painting directly onto celluloid, fast cutting, in-camera editing, scratching on film, collage film and the use of multiple exposures.

Working with ideas of body, space, death, movement, politics, power, sound, time, history, intimacy, fragmentation and disconnection.
